Adult Mental Health Courses

We offer various levels of adult mental health courses. Below you can learn more about which each course will offer you. We would be glad to discuss any of these with you.

Mental Health First Aider

Run by qualified trainers accredited by Mental Health First Aid England, train as a Mental Health First Aider (MHFAider®) and receive three years of certification, plus access to ongoing benefits.   This course is ideal for individuals who would like to become an MHFAider® to gain the knowledge and skills to spot signs of people experiencing poor mental health, be confident to start a conversation and signpost a person to appropriate support.

As an MHFAider® you will be able to:

  • Recognise those that may be experiencing poor mental health and provide them with first-level support and early intervention
  • Encourage a person to identify and access sources of professional help and other supports
  • Practise active listening and empathy
  • Have a conversation with improved mental health literacy around language and stigma
  • Discuss the MHFAider® role in depth, including boundaries and confidentiality
  • Practise self-care
  • Know how to use the MHFAider Support App®
  • Know how to access a dedicated text service provided by Shout and ongoing learning opportunities with MHFA England

Learners will be trained over four live sessions with an MHFA England Instructor Member, covering 14 hours of content in total.

Become a Mental Health Champion

This one-day course (face-to-face or online) trains you as an MHFA Champion, giving you:

  • An understanding of common mental health issues
  • Knowledge and confidence to advocate for mental health awareness
  • Ability to spot signs of mental ill health
  • Skills to support positive wellbeing

You’ll receive:

  • A certificate of attendance to say you are an MHFA Champion
  • A HelloHope Digital Badge to display across your website, email and social media channels
  • A manual to refer to whenever you need it
  • A quick reference card for the Mental Health First Aid action plan
  • A workbook including a helpful toolkit to support your own mental health

Mental Health Awareness

This four-hour course (choose face-to-face or via Zoom or Teams) raises awareness of mental health and focuses on providing better awareness and basic support for mental health. It covers: 

  • What mental health is and how to challenge stigma
  • A basic knowledge of some common mental health issues
  • An introduction to looking after your own mental health and maintaining wellbeing
  • Confidence to support someone in distress or who may be experiencing a mental health issue

You’ll receive:

  • A certificate of attendance to say you are Mental Health Aware
  • A HelloHope Digital Badge to display across your website, email and social media channels
  • A manual to refer to whenever you need it
  • A workbook including a helpful toolkit to support your own mental health

Mental Health Refresher

Suitable only for people who have completed a Mental Health First Aid course or an Armed Forces Mental Health First Aider course.

A four-hour MHFA Refresher course gives you the chance to:

  • Renew your skills
  • Update your knowledge of mental health support, practice applying the Mental Health First Aid action plan
  • Access another three years of MHFAider® support and benefits.

Mental Health skills for managers

Put wellbeing at the heart of your leadership approach to develop thriving teams with this practical and immersive course.

This evidence-based course is ideal for people managers who want to help create an open culture around mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.

To create a mentally healthy workplace it is vital to build supportive relationships between managers and team members.

This four-hour training course will provide a consistent approach to mental health and wellbeing, promoting healthy performance across the whole organisation.

By attending the course, you will learn to:

  • Identify if an employee may be experiencing poor mental health.
  • Feel confident having open conversations about mental health with your team members.
  • Appropriately signpost to available support and know where to go for support and guidance for yourself
  • Role model good self-care practice, inspiring your teams to look after their own mental health and wellbeing.

You will receive:

  • A certificate of attendance
  • A HelloHope Digital Badge to display across your website, email and social media channels
  • Knowledge and tools to take care of their own mental health as a manager and empower their teams
  • Digital workbook to use during the course
